Organizing with Kevin Sharkey of Martha Stewart Living

By , About.com Guide   September 7, 2010

Follow me on:

kevin sharkey organizationIt may not be as death-defying as Shark Week, but may I present a week of blog posts on Kevin Sharkey and his amazingly organized home, aka Sharkey Week?

For those not in the know, Kevin Sharkey is Senior Vice President and Executive Editorial Director, Decorating, and Executive Creative Director, Merchandising for Martha Stewart Living, in addition to being a blogger I follow daily (I blogged about his Home Design Blog in the past, see: Organizing with Houseplants).

Come with me on a tour through his home with organizing tips & tricks along the way. First we'll start with his living room and end Sharkey Week with a titillating look inside his drawer of... sunglasses.

First up: Kevin's Chic and Clutter-Free Living Room.

Jump on in to Sharkey Week, the water's just right.

You have me salivating in anticipation of heading home and tackling my space. Love, love, LOVE the ‘keep the original packaging’ hint. I will definitely adopt in an effort to stave off certain destruction (or outright evaporation) of my prized possessions. And thank you for making my closet organization seem a little less OCD and a little more DME (Disney Magic Esque). Spit Spot!

You? Lose an accessory? Never! I have saved jewelry in the original boxes but now I wish I had more of them. Square objects are so much easier to stash in a drawer. I also like using the free-with-purchase make up bags. They are often very pretty and as the name implies, free.

I think my favorite tip is to keep the living room as clutter free as possible. I expect to walk into a chaotic kitchen, but I hate settling down for an evening of Bachelor Pad/Flipping Out/Burn Notice watching with piles of junk mail, magazines and extension cords all over the place.
