I don't hold onto things for too long. I really like paper, and I'll hang onto magazine and newspaper articles I like for future reference, but everything else that I can shred, I shred immediately. This past winter I burnt a bunch of receipts in the fireplace of a ski house I was renting in Vermont with a bunch of friends. So satisfying. In fact, going through my wallet and shredding receipts has become a weekly ritual for me. I destroy receipts when:
- I no longer need it for a return; or,
- I don't need it for taxes
