Mix & max your shoe storage solutions

Follow me on:

22-Compartment Eco-Fabric Shoe BagI have a very limited amount of space for shoes and boots in my current closet so I've developed a solution that addresses my lack of closet storage:

  1. I keep a small storage rack in the bottom of my closet for the 5 or so pairs I wear regularly: wedge sandals, heels, and converse sneakers.
  2. The rest go in two plastic containers in the basement. If I am cleaning my room or closet and realize I have not worn a pair of shoes yet this season, I move them down to the basement storage which keeps them out of the way, but easy to retrieve.
  3. Running sneakers, flip flops and my regular work shoes go in a tray by the front door under the bench where I keep my hand bag. This way I'm not tracking mud or other outside elements through the house. In the winter I try to leave my boots outside on a tray in the garage.

Essentially, I'm using 3 shoe storage schemes (closet shoe rack, storage box, shoe tray) after years of trying to coral my shoes into 1 storage space.. This works for me, it may not work for you. Here's a guide to finding your best shoe storage solution:
