Back to School: Closet Clearing Tips from a Pro

clothes organizing

As I was reading Julie Morgenstern's tips for closet organizing, it occurred to me that at this time over a decade ago I was starting to pack for my freshmen year of college (Go Rams!) and I could have used this neat and concise list of questions when deciding which clothes to bring:

  • Do I love it?
  • Is it flattering?
  • Is it the image I want to project?

Instead of packing everything you own--which for me ended up being two cars full of crap ( I even had a pink caboodle with me that I distinctly remember my dad ended up carrying)--take some time now to start purging your closet so the big packing is quicker, more organized, and you're left with the best of your closet.

Great tips! “Is this the image I want to project?” led to me donate 3 contractor bags full of “No!” to the Salvation Army. Also, LOL @ the mental image of Bill Larkin carrying a pink caboodle for any reason whatsoever.

I think that question is the key. A lot of people, myself included, hang on to clothing items that are perfectly acceptable but not quite *right* for them. My Dad and the caboodle was a definite Kodak moment, but of course he didn’t think it was funny; there was a job to get done!
