How do you organize kids' school clothes?

Follow me on:

When my brother and I were in pre & elementary school, my mom organized our clothes not by type but by activity. On school days we could pick from the drawer of clothing she deemed "school clothes;" after school and weekends were for "play clothes;" and for church -- wait for it -- "church clothes."

This narrowed down our choices and guaranteed we were always wearing something activity-appropriate, but also made us feel like we were part of the process because we made the final decision.

She thinks this cut down on a lot of back-and-forth on school mornings. What do you think?  How do you organize your children's clothes?

Neat idea — did you guys put together your own outfits/combos or were they set-up for you? (Trying to imagine what my nearly 4-y-o might come up with!)

We were allowed to choose but because my mom had edited the drawer, she says we never walked out of the house with anything too crazy on. There were definitely days we were slightly miss-matched but there were also no pre-school fights about clothes.

I like the whole concept of limiting choices. You get to retain some autonomy.
