Question: How Do I Organize Too Many Clothes?

I have clothes crammed in to 4 closets and 4 tubs in another room. I need to figure out an easy plan to go through them all, without making messes all over the house. Help!

Answer: I know how easy it is to accumulate too many clothes due to changing trends, fluctuating waistlines and impulse purchases. Although I currently have too many clothes, I have managed to keep them very organized by using the right tools and strategies:

Limit Future Purchases:
Moving into a smaller space helped me to realize that I have too many clothes, and that puts it into perspective when I consider future purchases. I honestly ask myself if I really need it, and often times I realize that I don't, and I pass on purchasing.

Regular Weeding:
Before the next season approaches, it is helpful to weed through your current clothes. If you haven't worn it this season, chances are that you won't wear it next season. Therefore, this would be a good opportunity to donate it.

Separate Clothing Storage:
For seasonal or special occasion clothing, or even those items that you just can't bear to part with, keep them in separate storage. By using garment bags or underbed storage containers, you can save space in your closet and dresser for regularly used items.

Efficient Closet Storage Options:
I have managed to keep my closets, which have all varied in size, organized by using only a few storage options that helped to maximize my closet space.

Put Clothes Back Where you Found Them:
Make a conscious effort to put your clothes back at the end of the day, either in your closet, dresser or in the laundry hamper. This will help prevent piles of clutter.

Although you can't control past purchases, you can control future purchases, minimize your existing wardrobe and keep your clothing organized and clutter free.
