DVDs & Video Tapes:
I have a medium size collection of DVDs and VHS video tapes that I refuse to part with, and while my VCR continues to work, I can still hold onto them for quite sometime. There are services that will transfer your VHS to DVDs, which I will look into one day to preserve my videos.
As for storage, I utilize the top of my Armoire which offers both functionality and aesthetic appeal, and I have the option of closing the doors when not in use. Since my collection is not that big, I can store additional items too, including books and magazines. If you have a larger collection, I would suggest organizing your DVDs in alphabetical order so that they are easy to retrieve and put back, and a storage unit designed for DVDs will offer individual compartments to hold your DVDs in place.
CDs:
I keep my growing CD collection in an existing piece of furniture – an armoire drawer. It offers the perfect amount of storage space, and I like the fact that I can close the drawer. At one point I organized my CDs in alphabetical order which I realized works better if you are using a storage unit specifically for CDs that offer individualized compartments, otherwise, when you are storing one on top of another, it can be time-consuming to keep them alphabetical. Instead, I arrange my piles by the style of music:
- Soundtracks
- Country
- Jazz
- Folk
- Classic Rock
- Compilations that either friends or I have created
- Meditation
Whether you use an existing piece of furniture or consider purchasing Multi-Media storage, keeping your media organized will save you time when you are locating an item or putting it back.
